Migration to Arkansas by African-Americans Discussed at SouthArk

Professor Story Matkin-Rawn gave an excellent Powerpoint presentation about the large migration of African-Americans to Arkasnsas from other parts of the South between 1870 and 1900.  The lecture revealed a substantial amount of new and exciting research conducted by Prof. Matkin-Rawn.  The possibiity of higher wages, land ownership, and open range laws pulled Freedmen from east of the Mississippi to Arkansas where land was plentiful and open grazing was still allowed.
