Speaker Series - Dr. S. Charles Bolton "When Arkansas was a part of Missouri"

The Board of Directors of the South Arkansas Historical Preservation Society cordially invites you to come and hear about your yesterday with guest speaker:

"When Arkansas was a Part of Missouri"


S. Charles Bolton grew up in New York State, earned a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1973, and began teaching at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock that same year.  In 1993 he published Territorial Ambition: Land and Society in Arkansas, 1800-1840 and in 1998 Arkansas 1800-1860: Remote and Restless. He was a co-editor of A Whole Country in Commotion: The Louisiana Purchase and the American Southwest that came out in 2005.

Bolton retired in 2008 but has continued doing research and writing.  His new book, Fugitivism: Escaping Slavery in the Lower Mississippi Valley, 1820-1860, will be published by the University of Arkansas Press this summer.  He is currently working on a book dealing with the economic history of Arkansas.
